NBOUND TOURISTS CONTINUES TO GROW
The number of inbound tourists continued to grow in 2013 as the situation in Afghanistan improved marginally with no large-scale attacks. As the country is struggling to rebuild the war stricken streets and clear rubble, foreign expertise are invited into the country. Neighbouring countries have also noted Afghanistan with its stunning scenery and for those who are willing to risk entering the country have contributed to travel and tourism. A few asylum seekers from Afghanistan are also returning to their homeland.
FOREIGN EXPERTISE NEEDED
As Afghanistan tries to rebuild the country, foreign expertise is needed to guide it and also to develop its industries such as agriculture and mining. The dominance of business tourism was evident when Emirates Airline offered first and business class on its routes between Dubai and Kabul in December 2013. As Afghanistan depends on foreign expertise to help rebuild the country, many business tourists travelling on company expenses would prefer better class seats. Local airlines such as Safi Airways will continue to focus on affordable and achieving good flying records.
SECURITY ISSUES STILL A HINDER TO TOURISM
Most countries issue a warning to travelling into Afghanistan and most people understand the risk of travelling into the country. Only the brave and adventurous would venture into the pristine landscape with breathtaking mountain ranges and beautiful lakes. For those travelling for business purposes such as journalists or foreign expertise to help rebuild the country, there are local guides and chauffeurs following them through their stay to ensure their welfare. A normal traveller would not consider visiting Afghanistan in case they meet with any danger during attacks and bombings.
MORE TRAVELLING INTO AFGHANISTAN OVER THE FORECAST PERIOD
As Afghanistan tries to rebuild its war stricken country, needing foreign expertise to provide advice and knowledge, more business travellers are expected over the forecast period.
